DANIELLE  PARSONS

Danielle’s passion for sharing science through media is the underlying force motivating her current career trajectory.  While in undergraduate studies at Harvard, Danielle was fortunate to study under some of the greatest minds in evolutionary and molecular biology, including Edward O. Wilson, Richard Lewontin, and the late Stephen Jay Gould.  This was the start of an ongoing interest in science, which has since grown and developed.

Danielle has volunteered in the Division of Invertebrate Zoology at the American Museum of Natural History, and given talks about insects to students at New Roads Elementary School.  In 2009, she worked at the TED Conferences headquarters in New York City.  She has directed and edited over a dozen short nature and science vignettes, most of which have shown at film festivals nationally and internationally, and she has taped interviews with two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, E.O. Wilson, and other prominent myrmecologists (ant scientists). Danielle filmed a documentary about ant society involving extensive research for which she won a 2005 NYSCA Filmmakers Grant.  Her explorations of insect society led directly to her current interest in complex systems.

From touring the Galapagos to producing a cultural documentary in Kazakhstan, to prepping an action film in the Philippines, and filming insects in the Venezuelan rainforest, Danielle’s work has enabled her to visit exotic locales.  Motivated by her interest in science, nature, technology and entertainment, Danielle has spent the past several years producing independent media, distributing her work via Slate.com, BBC, Channel 4, Bloomberg TV, and at film festivals.

Danielle’s producing and directing credits include feature films, documentary, short films, television, and online video.  In an executive capacity, Danielle served as Vice President of Production at Orion Pictures, MGM, and Destination Film Distribution Co., and as a development executive at MPCA.  She has a track record of identifying commercial material and consistently completing projects on time and on budget.  Leading the full production process from development to post-production in a comprehensive range of roles within independents and major studios, Danielle has proven success in numerous environments within the entertainment industry.

Danielle currently lives and works in Los Angeles as a freelance producer and director.
